Emily Blunt was very honest during a recent talk show appearance about how she has had to pretend chemistry over the years with certain co-stars she just could not connect with on set. Blunt has acted opposite many famous leading men throughout her career, from Matt Damon to Tom Cruise, Dwayne Johnson, Ryan Gosling and Cillian Murphy.
The host asked Blunt if she has ever wanted to throw up after kissing some of her male co-stars during filming. The Oscar-nominated actress said: “Absolutely. Absolutely.”
“I would not say it is extreme dislike, but I have definitely not enjoyed some of it,” Blunt added.
Blunt did not name any co-star she could not make chemistry with, but she did say: “I have had chemistry with people who… I have not had a good time working with them.”
“Sometimes it is a strange thing. Sometimes you could have an easy rapport with someone, but it does not show onscreen,” Blunt continued. “Chemistry is this strange thing that you cannot really bottle up and buy or sell. It is either there or it is not…It is just easier when you naturally get along with someone.”
Blunt has been acting for so long that at this point she has a method for how to build chemistry, saying: “I have to find something I love about everybody. I have to find something… Even if it is one thing.”
“It might be that they have a nice laugh or I like how they speak to people. They are polite. I mean, it might be something random,” Blunt explained. “But find something you love about that person or something you love about them as the character and then focus on that.”
Blunt earned an Oscar nomination earlier this year for her supporting role in the movie “Oppenheimer,” which won best picture. She is currently starring in the action romance movie “The Fall Guy,” co-starring Ryan Gosling.
